Winter Olympics: Beijing bids for 2022 Winter Games

On Tuesday, Beijing leaders gave over the official bid to host the Winter Olympics 2022 to International Olympic Committee heightening their fight with Kazakhstan’s Almaty. Therefore, now it is guaranteed to be hosted in Asia as Almaty and Beijing are the only two candidates. The IOC Committee will make a final decision earlier in July.

Chinese Olympic Committee chairman Liu Peng and Beijing 2022 Bid Committee chairman Wang Anshun, presented the Chinese capital’s construction and financial guarantees for the tournament at International Olympic Committee headquarters.

However, they made no immediate comment. Almaty’s sporting as well as bid leaders was to offer their official guarantees to International Olympic Committee officials later on Tuesday. Even though China would host some skiing events up to 140 miles (220 kilometers) from Beijing, the Chinese bid is thought to have the favorite because of the political clout of the country within Olympic movement.

A lot of the officials who arranged the Summer Olympics in Beijing in 2008 have been drafted into team battling for Winter Games. Almaty, Kazakhstan, has been spotted from suffering from a lack of backing from Nursultan Nazarbayev, their strongman president. But now, the government appears behind this project.

Kazakhstans Almaty was also an option for the Winter Olympics 2014 that went to Sochi in Russia. It hosted the Asian Winter Games in 2011 and has been selected for University Winter Games 2017.
